Food (and Drink): St. Germain

Over the weekend, we had dinner with friends who introduced me to this:

and now I am smitten with this:

THE ST-GERMAIN COCKTAIL
Our signature drink
2 PARTS
Brut Champagne or Dry Sparkling Wine
1½ PARTS
St-Germain
2 PARTS
Club Soda
METHOD: Stir ingredients in a tall ice-filled Collins glass, mixing completely. Think of Paris circa 1947. Garnish with a lemon twist.
VARIATION: Think of Sartre circa 1947. Be the lemon twist.

(My girlfriend mixes hers with equal parts Pelligrino and Prosecco).

Now, I'm not a big mixed drink drinker so maybe I'm just really late to the party on this one but it is perhaps the yummiest beverage that has passed my lips in years! (including the new salted caramel mocha at Starbucks that I have singing the praises of).  Just read this product description from their enchanting web-site:

Fine artisanal French liqueurAll natural, made from 100% fresh, handpicked elderflowersSubtle yet complex flavorLow sugar content, roughly half that of other liqueursEasily pairs with a variety of spirits in many cocktailsElegant French-inspired bottle to adorn your back bar

I mean, "all natural, HANDPICKED elderflowers (never heard of those before), low sugar content, elegant French-inspired bottle"......seriously, YES!

My friend actually confessed that she originally purchased this liqueur after seeing a print ad and becoming mesmerized with how beautiful the bottle is (I'm glad I'm not the only one who often falls in love with packaging first); and that got me thinking of how I've been longing for a bar cart for a while now:

look, it is actually on this one!

If I ever do get one, I now know which bottle is going on first.
Cheers!

  2. I felt the same way about the British spirit Pimm's. Had my first taste at the Chelsea Flower Show no less. It can be mixed with champagne, Ginger ale or even lemonade. Add fruit like strawberries, but surprising best addition is cucumber stalks! Delish! --Alison
